Know before you go
  • Dogs must be on a leash of 6 ft or less, with waste picked up.
  • Bikers yield to walkers and runners, ride single file, and obey posted speed limits; the page says road, cruiser and commuter bikes are not recommended on the rough terrain.
  • Creek levels change fast; the city does not monitor water levels (USGS and LCRA do), so check the forecast and gauges before going.
Info checked

The Barton Creek Greenbelt is a long natural corridor in Austin that follows Barton Creek past limestone cliffs. The city describes the terrain as rough and uneven, so it favors hikers, trail runners and mountain bikers over road or commuter bikes. Seven listed trailheads allow short out-and-backs or longer point-to-point days along roughly 7.5 main-trail miles. Water levels vary with rainfall and can change quickly.

Rides, runs & races nearby

Routes and trail info are for planning only and may be out of date. Conditions change fast after rain. Never cross a low-water crossing with water flowing over it. Ride and run only where it's public and allowed; respect closed gates, private property and park rules. A line on a map is not permission to be somewhere. You go at your own risk. Spotted a problem?
